Mino-ware tiles with pure color of the glaze
Earrings made of Mino-ware tiles.
*Mino-ware tiles: Mino tile is a distinct type of ceramic, originating from Gifu prefecture, developed by 8th century Sueki potteries' glossy finish made by the flames and the ashes in the kiln. Later, when concrete buildings began to become popular during the Taisho era (1912-1926), Mino tiles were widely used to add a colorful and modern look to the buildings. In the early period of the Showa era (from 1926) smaller porcelain glazed mosaic tiles appeared to save production time. Nowadays, about 85% of tiles currently produced in Japan are from the Mino area. Even today, Mino-ware tile continues to evolve with modern technology and techniques to advance its decoration, durability, and quality.
